The Chairman of QMTI

Major General Prithi Singh , General Officer Commanding, Dakshin Maharashtra Sub Area took over the command with effect from 01 May 2016. The General Officer is an alumni of The Doon School, Dehradun, the National Defence Academy Khadakwasla and after undergoing training at Indian Military Academy, Dehradun was commissioned into the First Gorkha Rifles in Dec 1982.

An infantry man to the core he has extensive field and operational experience having undertaken multiple tours of duty in actively disturbed areas both within the country and overseas. In addition to serving in the North East and Jammu & Kashmir he has distinguished himself as a member of the Indian Peace Keeping Force in Sri Lanka wherein he was awarded a wound medal as also served as part of the United Nations Mission in Angola. He has tenanted important staff appointments to include being an Aide to the Chief of Army Staff as also a General Staff Officer (Operations) in Kashmir during the Kargil Operations. His operational command profile includes an Infantry Brigade and a Division as part of offensive strike formations.

Towards attainment of the status of a “Scholar Soldier” he has pursued an intense academic schedule wherein he is a post graduate in “Defence Studies” from Madras University. In addition he is amongst a select few to hold a post graduate degree in “National Security Strategy” from the prestigious National War College, National Defence University in the US wherein he was also adjudged as the outstanding International Fellow of the class of 2006, the only Indian Army officer to achieve such a distinction to date.

As GOC Dakshin Maharashtra Sub Area, he also holds the additional charter of Chairmanship of two premier tri service institutions, the Queen Mary’s Technical Institute and Paraplegic Rehabilitation Centre, located at Khadki (Pune). The QMTI is engaged in the conduct of rehabilitation training for our disabled soldiers who have been injured in the line of duty so as to empower them to lead a life of dignity post superannuation. The PRC on the other hand provides for life time tertiary care of combatants having suffered severe spinal injuries during active duty and have become paraplegics/quadriplegics. Besides being GOC DMSA , Chairman QMTI and PRC, his mandate includes Stn Cdr Pune and President Pune Cantonment Board .
